The other is going to go within a week, it is only hanging by a thread. I have her pretty well convinced to be the Tooth Fairy for Halloween.

Parnell Tower
We went hiking on Sunday, a lovely summer afternoon with autumn blowing softly in the breeze.
The view from the tower was particularly amazing Sunday, it was so clear! You could see Lake Michigan in the distance (behind Chris in the picture) and even Holy Hill to the southwest. The kames and kettles of the Kettle Moraine were so easy to see from up above.

Unfit for Human Consumption
I went to the orchard the other day to buy apples. I usually buy second quality apples for applesauce, but then I spotted some large bags of apples banished to the corner. They were marked "Deer Apples/ $5 per bag". I could see that there were some bruised or rotten apples in the bag, but overall they were in great shape, windfalls probably. I bought 4 bags--3 for me, 1 for a friend. Cheap applesauce was all I was thinking.
When I was paying for them, the man behind the counter asked me "Do you have horses? Or are you actually going to feed the apples to deer?". Because, you know, I look so much like a refined equestrian, or maybe even a horrible monster who would bait her dinner because I am such a bad shot.
"Umm. Yeah. Horses."
"Do you own a horse? Who rides?"
"Umm. Yes. Our family."
"That's great. I'm sure that your horse will love the apples."
Sheesh.
The applesauce is delicious and looks beautiful all lined up on my basement shelves. All 53 quarts of it.
