Torus Fracture
Claire broke her wrist falling off of her scooter. She was coming down a hill at high speed and put out her arms to cushion the fall.
The type of incomplete fracture she sustained is called a Torus Fracture. Torus Fractures happen only in children, when their bones are still soft. Basically the bone compacts upon impact, and usually heals quickly without complication in 2-4 weeks.
Call me unoriginal or sentimental, I signed Claire's cast the exact way my mom signed my cast when I was a girl: " \/\/\/\/ <---- Broke Here! Love, Mom".

Watermelon Margaritas
I served these on Sunday before dinner. An amazing beverage on a hot, relaxing afternoon. They went down pretty easy!
Watermelon Margaritas
Cooking Light, July 2010
3 1/2 cups seeded watermelon
1/2 cup tequila
2 T sugar
juice of one lime
1 T Triple Sec
Combine all ingredients and puree in a blender until smooth. Serve over ice. Makes 4 drinks.

The Zoo and Shoes
After a blah Saturday morning cleaning and whatnot, we hastily loaded up the kids into the van and drove 50 minutes to the Milwaukee Zoo. We needed to get out of the house, it had been a very long, tiresome week. The drive felt so much longer than usual. Chris and I were both crabby and the kids were irritating us and each other. The drive was only made palatable by listening to On the Banks of Plum Creek on CD, realizing that I lead a cake-walk existence compared to Caroline Ingalls. Anyways, we pulled into the parking lot and got the stroller out and Claire announced: "I forgot my shoes." To which Isabel replied, "Me too. I don't have any sandals."
Seriously. How do my children forget footwear? Grrrr.
Chris and I looked at each other and said a few choice words. We loaded the stroller back into the van and drove an even longer 50 minutes home.
Somehow I doubt shoes will be forgotten again anytime soon.

Vocab
Gus's complete vocabulary, in order of appearance:
Momma, Dada, garbage truck, truck, car, outside, shoes, Papa, Grandma, bird, something that is supposed to be Izzy, night-night
Animal sounds:
Cow, Fish, Horse, Monkey, Wolf, Snake, Dog, Cat, Owl, Goat, Sheep, Duck
He is saying new words everyday, including many I don't understand, which frustrates him to pieces.

Memorial Day
Bike decorating contest winners! Claire won 3rd place in her age group and Lily won 2nd place in hers! $5 and $10 respectively! Woo hoo!
Accepting the awards.
5 mile race finishers and Walter. Am I not really cute after exercise? Sweaty red face with white splotches--very flattering.
We had a relaxing day enjoying the weather and good company. A much needed balm after the busy (but also enjoyable) wedding festivities.
