1. My freezer meals are dwindling. I have really appreciated not having to cook every meal lately. One less thing to do, right? I am making Clam Pasta for dinner tonight. It is not a freezer meal, but it is super tasty and quick. I am making Overnight French Toast for breakfast tomorrow--another recipe you should try. While Gussy can't enjoy it (he is allergic to eggs), we love it and you will too!
2. We are adjusting to life with Theo. I have yet to completely figure him out. Doesn't that take a lifetime? He seems more fussy than my other kids, but I could have forgotten already. :) Nursing hasn't been easy. I feel like a failure. I have to remind myself often that sleep deprivation and postpartum hormones are nasty ghouls that severly alter my perception of reality. I really do feel like a crazy person.
3. Coffee is a lifesaver. My mood determines my coffee mug for the morning. Is that the same for you too? My favorite one lately is the red one (sassy), but the owl mug Claire got for her birthday has been very tempting. She has first dibs.
4. Homeschool this week went well. We breakfasted and went to Matins on schedule. I had the girls do abbreviated lessons after Matins, an induction of sorts. I plan to start full bore next Tuesday.
5. Chris and I have watched the RNC the past few nights with Theo--in a sort of sleepy, hypnotic trance. Condi Rice was amazing. I loved Paul Ryan, Susana Martinez, and Marco Rubio's speeches (Damn! We're Republicans!). Clint Eastwood was creepy weird. Mitt Romney? Eh?, it was okay. I will vote for him, but I did not find his speech inspiring, granted I did sleep through half of it.

Gnome Cake
This Gnome Cake, otherwise known as German Chocolate Cake, was serious good eats. The cake and filling recipe was from David Lebovitz. The chocolate frosting recipe was from Ina. (Can Ina do any wrong?) The gnomes were from How About Orange. They combined to make a perfect 10th/ gnome-ber 56 birthday cake!

5 Things
1. My girls went to Michigan with their cousins after the Baptism for a few days. Chris just left to bring them home. I have really missed them. I am a hormonal mess--I want my children with me. Plus Gus is high maintenance and I'm tired. His sisters help me so much more than I realize.
2. Theo had a very bad day yesterday. Lots of tears (me and him). Last night was great. Were we both tired from a day of hysteria?
3. We decided to cloth diaper Theo. I love it! I wish that we would have jumped on this bandwagon babies ago. It is really easy. And the cloth diaper bum? So cute. I have lots of disposable wipes left over from diapering Gus. I plan to make some cloth wipes (fleece or flannel?) when they run out. They will be easier than disposable--tuck them right into the dirty cloth diaper. Done!
4. School starts for us next week. I am desperately craving our school schedule. Our children's behavior has been crumbling with with all the free time that they have had this summer. I miss the busy cadence of our school days--piano, math, Latin, etc., lunch, dinner, showers, bedtime, REPEAT.
5. My husband is so great. I love him and he loves me back.

Theo was baptized on Sunday. Praise be to God. It was a lovely weekend, full of food and friends family and laughter. Thank you to everyone!
