My husband was telling me a story he heard about Mr. Rogers the other day. Apparently, Fred in his pre-children's programming days was a Navy Seal, covered in tattoos, and had accrued an unreal amount of kills during the Vietnam War.
According to this website the story is just an urban legend. I am kinda bummed that it turned out to be false. I enjoyed watching the one or two episodes with my girls imagining a huge tattoo on his bicep. It made me laugh.

Mr. Rogers was actually an ordained minister. I think he was really a pretty good guy. Too bad I hated his show when I was a child. Did anyone ever say, "Oh, when will Mr. Rogers be on because I really really want to watch it?" Electric Company was totally my thing.
TM,
I really liked Mr. Rogers as a child--I probably even begged to watch it. I like it now as a mom too. I appreciate how slow he talks and how "boring" the program is. I find that many other children's shows are hyper-simulating and fast paced. The suspense of the zipper cardigan is enough adventure for me!
