I love that Ramen Noodle Coleslaw that shows up at Lutheran potlucks-- crunchy, salty, nutty, and sweet all at the same time. I had a craving for it the other day and I had never made it myself. So, I got a recipe off of allrecipes.com (the best website for haute Midwestern cuisine) and added Ramen Noodles to my grocery list.
I had never bought Ramen Noodles before. Do you know how weird it was for me? Really weird. Buying prophylactics weird. I never buy processed foods like that--I "shop" the perimeter of the grocery store like they taught goody-two-shoes-me in nutrition class. I felt kinda dirty putting my 15 cent package in the cart. Did you know that you can actually buy a case at a time? Who eats a $3 case of Ramen Noodles? That's a lot of salty noodles!
I made the salad. It was delicious. Chris actually had to tell me in a firm voice "Erin. Put the cabbage down."

Hi. My name is Susan, and I buy cases of Ramen noodles. I am ashamed. If it were me, I wouldn't do it. But I have children who are addicted. I am a rotten mother. I don't know where they first came across the contraband, but when they did, they loved it. And now I am an accomplice in their habit. (Does it count that 4 or 5 of them are sharing the case? And because there's no real food in it, the stuff never goes bad and so theoretically sits on the shelf for months and months and months before needing to be restocked?)
As for the dirtiness of eating that junk food .... hey, the cabbage/ramen salad can't be any worse for you than a Snickers bar. And it's WAY better for you than a Mountain Dew!
By the way, I luv luv luv the flowers at the top of the blog now.
I was going to pester you for pictures of James, and accuse Charles of spending time with his wife and child instead of shipping out those photos to us curious folks (!), but then I checked the rest of your blog, and you'd uploaded pics just seconds earlier. Thanks! He's beautiful. (And Maggie wants to know WHY anybody would announce he's a good pooper. LOL!)
Erin, I'm sure it's not impossible to make ramen noodles from scratch, but do tell me if you figure out how.
