Frankenmuth

We visited Frankenmuth, Michigan on our way to Chris's parents house. We only stayed an hour or two, mostly on the St. Lorenz Lutheran Church campus. I am looking forward to going back and meandering a bit more, especially in their museum!

St. Lorenz Lutheran Church has an amazing history.

Picnicking in the cemetery by the original church bells brought from Germany.

St. Lorenz had beautiful stained glass windows installed in the 1960's when they expanded the church. I think that my husband would like a Wilhelm Loehe window in his church too.

I really ought to read your blog more often.... My mom was born and raised in Frankenmuth. My parents were married at St. Lorenz. I was last in St. Lorenz for my grandma's funeral 2 years ago. I have many, many relatives buried in that cemetery. I miss Frankenmuth. I was probably there 30 times in my lifetime, and, sadly, there's not much reason to go there now.

I'm glad you could see St. Lorenz in all its glory without going to church there. Even my mom won't go there anymore. They've slid down the slippery slope. So incredibly sad... A church with amazing resources with such vacuous preaching and barely a liturgy to be found. But I digress...

Frankenmuth is a beautiful town. They have such civic pride in keeping it that way. If you ever go back, don't miss a chicken dinner at Zehnder's or the Bavarian Inn. And look at the little building right across the south parking lot of Zehnder's and you'll see the building that was once my grandfather's car dealership/garage. Oh, and of course, there's Bronner's amazing Christmas store. Did you get in there? Your kids' eyes would light up! So fun to reminisce... thanks for listening!
